A sense of place is crucial when searching for a new custom Florida home, and residents of Mosaic ICI Homes’ premier master-planned community in Daytona Beach have it.
But Mosaic’s hometown of Daytona Beach also exudes a strong sense of place. The home of the “World’s Most Famous Beach” is both iconic and evolving, a uniqueness captured in the Daytona Beach Mural Trail.
Didn’t know Daytona Beach had such a thing? Now you do! And it’s a must-see adventure.
Read on for more information.
What it is
Street art, or public art? Both terms are accurate descriptions of the Daytona Beach Mural Trail. Both describe original artwork done for public beautification and enjoyment, as a scenic way to capture a location’s sense of place.
As of this writing, the Daytona Beach Mural Trail includes 20 public murals in Daytona Beach, nine in neighboring Ormond Beach to the north, and four in Daytona Beach Shores to the south.
The most recent mural is at Humphreys & Sons Jewelers on Daytona Beach’s Main Street. Painted by artist Beth O’Conner, it features the historic Ponce Inlet lighthouse.
Mural Trail highlights
The closest public murals to Mosaic are at the ONE DAYTONA shopping, dining and entertainment complex on U.S. Highway 92 (International Speedway Boulevard) only 10 minutes east of Mosaic.
One DAYTONA ONE mural commemorates beachgoers lounging, swimming and strolling golden sands while vehicles (permitted to park and drive only on certain sections of Daytona Beach) traverse a narrow beach lane.
Another ONE DAYTONA mural commemorates NASCAR racing at Daytona International Speedway, just across U.S. Highway 92.
The third ONE DAYTONA mural is a composition of native animals, birds and insects painted by Beth O’Conner.
The Mural Trail also includes paintings at the historic Daytona Beach Pier, at Crabby’s Oceanside on South Atlantic Avenue, Crabby Joe’s Deck & Grill on the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores, and Boondocks Restaurant in Wilbur by the Sea near Daytona Beach Shores.
How to enjoy it
If there’s a perfect selfie opportunity this is it. Download a list or snap a screen grab of all Daytona Beach Mural Trail locations and head out for a day’s adventure.
The murals come in all sizes, but many are quite large, typically covering most of an outer building wall, and it’s hard to miss their bright, cheerful colors and local scenes. Naturally there are lots of coastal, beach-y and oceanic themes, but Mosaic residents on the Mural Trail also will find paintings that depict Daytona Beach history and events.
Post your favorites on social media or take detailed photos to inspire a future art project. Who knows? The next Daytona Beach Mural Trail artist could be a Mosaic resident!
