Styled for the young and young at heart, ICI Homes’ master-planned community of Mosaic in Daytona Beach is one of our top properties in east central Florida. And with good reason.
Everyone from kids to parents to grandparents, to dogs and cats and other pets, happily call its 800 acres home. Entertainment is easy to find — one visit to the Club Mosaic amenity center will confirm that. But if you’re considering buying or building a new custom Florida home here with youngsters in tow, you may wonder about convenient options away from home.
The answer? Plenty.
Here’s more on where Mosaic kids can have fun in Daytona Beach.
The beach
It’s not called the “World’s Most Famous Beach” for nothing. Visitors from all over the globe flock to Daytona Beach to lounge on its wide sands, and to swim and surf its blue-green waters.
Some sections of its 23 miles of beaches are drivable at low tide (for an entrance fee). So you can pack snacks, toys and supplies and use your vehicle as home base right on the beach, although plenty of beachfront parks and parking also is available.
U.S. Highway 92 (International Speedway Boulevard), which takes you directly east to Daytona Beach, is less than five minutes south of Mosaic’s main entrance.
The lighthouse
Once of Florida’s premier historical attractions is located in Ponce Inlet, south of Daytona Beach.
The circa-1887 Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, beautifully preserved, still serves as a working light. The historic outbuildings and keepers’ homes that surround its red-brick base also are beautifully preserved. These structures serve as an onsite museum, using multiple exhibits to convey a taste of late-19th and early-20th-century lighthouse life.
The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse also is a good place to exhaust kids’ never-ending energy! Safely supervise their 203-step, 175-foot climb to the top, then marvel at jaw-dropping vistas.
Marine Science Center
Make it a day of exploration by visiting the Marine Science Center next door to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.
Currently closed to the public, the Center re-opens June 1 after renovations that began September 2, 2024. Once it returns, kids and adults will enjoy seeing sea birds and turtles recovering from various mishaps, plus meet the Center’s resident raptors. Exhibits highlighting the area’s marine wildlife, touch tanks, and a nature trail also are on property.
The Museum of Arts of Sciences
Known locally as MOAS, the 100,000-square-foot Museum of Arts and Sciences boasts an amazing 90-acre campus packed with galleries, exhibits and seriously fun activities — especially for kids. It also makes an excellent indoor option during summer showers.
To start, the Charles and Linda Williams Children’s Museum offers plenty of interactive fun. Kids of all ages will thrill to the Lowell and Nancy Lohman Family Planetarium and the Prehistory of Florida exhibit with its Giant Sloth skeleton.
MOAS also offers Summer Learning Institute sessions for kids ages 5 to 13.
